If you've called in to our office recently, you might have heard something strange. Instead of the phone ringing, you are listening to music until we answer your call. In an effort to improve our ability to serve our customers, we have implemented a new phone system in our office. Now our customers don't have to worry that the phone will be busy when they are trying to reach us. If we can't answer your call, don't worry - we'll get your voice mail and get back to you right away.

Did you know that beginning on April 22, 2010 contractors working in homes built before 1978 must be "RRP" certified to use lead safe practices? Barry Smith Construction has certified our carpenters and have completed the necssary training to be able to work on these homes in a way that is safe for everyone. This full day certification covered the EPA standards for dealing with lead in a residence, and culminated in a test that all of our carpenters completed successfullly. April may still be a few months away, but at Barry Smith Construction, we are already complying with the new EPA regulations.

Starting Sunday, May 10th, you can tune in to get tips from Barry on things you can do around your home to improve it. We are pleased to announce that we have hired highly a experienced estimator, Lydia Jorgensen of Eureka to streamline the bidding processes and better serve our customers.
Ms. Jorgensen brings eight years of industry experience to the company. She served as a Construction Assistant for a local, well-known fire and water damage repair firm as well as an out of the area electrical contracting company. Prior to working as an estimator, Lydia served in the army where she received a commendation in 1996 for her work in providing disaster relief to residents of Florida and South Carolina.
Lydia will work closely with our customers to develop projects that fully serve and accurately capture client needs and wants. Her role will include developing project bids and ensuring that the bids are a precise reflection of the work going into each project. This will enable Barry Smith Construction to maintain its high level of project quality and accuracy while increasing process efficiency.
Office Manager Zev Trubowitch states “Estimating takes a special personality. One needs a strong ability to multi-task while under pressure, but at the same time maintain excellent communication and high-level people skills. Ms. Jorgensen really impressed us with her knowledge of estimating, but it was her excellent customer service skills that impressed us most.”

We urge local homeowners to consider the impact on our community when they hire out of the area businesses to work on their homes, and to be sure that whoever they hire, they make certain that the person working in their home is licensed for the work they are doing.

The InstallationMasters™ training and certification program is a comprehensive installer certification program, administered by Architectural Testing that teaches and tests an installer's knowledge on the industry-accepted practices for installing windows and exterior doors in residential and light commercial markets as based on ASTM E2112-07.
